Rarotonga with kids

A family holiday works best when you plan less, stay close to the lagoon, and leave enough empty time for swimming, snacks and early nights.

The simple formula

One main thing each day.

Cook Islands Tourism highlights lagoon cruises, snorkelling, markets, cultural entertainment, inland adventures and kids clubs as family options. The island is compact, so there is little benefit in over-scheduling.

Stay

Prioritise lagoon access, a practical room layout, shade, food nearby and transport simplicity over an impressive list of facilities.

Do

Lagoon cruise, easy snorkelling, Saturday market, a cultural evening and one inland adventure make a strong first-trip mix.

Eat

Mix restaurants with markets, cafés and a supermarket night. Younger kids often do better with flexibility than a formal reservation every evening.

Move

The bus can work well, especially around Muri. A car becomes more useful with young children, lots of gear, a remote villa or frequent island exploring.

Currently confirmed kids clubs

Three obvious full-service starting points.

Current Cook Islands Tourism family information points visitors to Pacific Resort Rarotonga, Edgewater Resort & Spa and The Rarotongan Beach Resort & Lagoonarium for kids-club options. Check ages and schedules directly before booking.

Pacific Resort Rarotonga

Muri location, daily Pacific Kids Club and easy walking access to dining and lagoon activities.

The Edgewater Resort & Spa

West-coast resort scale, kids-club option and family dining at The Brasserie.

The Rarotongan

Aroa Lagoon setting; current supplier information lists Moko Kids Club ages 4–11 and Teen Zone ages 12–16.

Water safety: lagoon conditions vary. Children still need active adult supervision, and reef passages / open-water areas should not be treated like a swimming pool.
