Best restaurants in Rarotonga

A useful first shortlist by occasion — not a fake numerical ranking and not a list that can be bought.

This is a shortlist, not a pay-to-win ranking

Rarotonga.co.nz will separate editorial selection from paid visibility. This launch shortlist is deliberately mixed: special-occasion dining, breakfast/brunch, beachside eating, Muri convenience and market food. Featured partners may later get more visibility, but they do not buy the editorial verdict.

Nautilus Restaurant — polished Muri dinner

Nautilus Resort's current dining page says the restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and welcomes outside visitors. It combines a more polished setting with Muri Lagoon views.

Go for: a special dinner or a more refined Muri meal.

Tamarind House — heritage setting near Avarua

Tamarind House occupies a restored heritage house on 2.5 acres near Avarua. Its current site focuses on Pacific cuisine, seafood, steak, lamb and vegetable dishes, with evening dining and selected lunch service.

Go for: setting, dinner and occasions close to town.

The Lucky Rooster — breakfast, brunch and lunch

The Lucky Rooster's current site lists breakfast, brunch, lunch, coffee and smoothies in downtown Avarua. Its current kitchen hours are Monday–Friday 8:30am–2pm and Saturday 8am–1pm, with takeaway drinks starting earlier.

Go for: breakfast/brunch, coffee, families or a practical town stop.

On the Beach Restaurant & Bar — sunset coast

Manuia Beach Resort's restaurant/bar sits directly on the west-coast beach, making location part of the reason to choose it.

Go for: sunset atmosphere and a meal where you do not need to leave the beach.

Charlie's — casual beachside Titikaveka

Charlie's is a useful counterpoint to resort dining: casual beachside food and drinks near Akapuao Marine Park, with kayak/SUP hire part of the wider stop.

Go for: a relaxed lunch or drink on a south-coast beach day.

Muri Night Market — not a restaurant, still essential

The Muri Night Market currently operates Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday evenings from 5pm until sold out. It belongs in any eating guide because it gives visitors a completely different, lower-formality way to sample local vendors.

Go for: variety, casual dinner and market atmosphere. Arrive early.
