Settle into your area, buy the basics, learn where the bus runs and take a short walk or drive nearby. Do not make your first evening a race across the island for a reservation unless the meal itself is the reason.
Use a lagoon cruise as the anchor, or make it a self-guided Muri day with kayak/SUP, motu time and food nearby. This is a good day to keep transport simple.
Drive, bus or ride around the island, but slow down enough to stop. Combine Avarua, shopping or Punanga Nui Market when the timing works, then continue around the west or south coast.
Choose Titikaveka, Aroa or another suitable lagoon spot based on current wind and water conditions. Make the day deliberately loose so you can move if conditions are better elsewhere.
Choose a cultural experience, guided inland activity, gardens or a walk. If you want an island night, anchor the evening around the venue's current operating night rather than assuming it runs daily.
If Aitutaki is a must-do and you are not staying there separately, this is the full-day slot. Otherwise leave this day almost empty and return to whatever you liked most during the week.
Repeat a beach or café, collect local gifts, check your flight and transport, and enjoy a final meal without turning the last day into a checklist.
Rarotonga is only about 32km around and official Tourism says the island circuit is roughly a 45-minute drive. You do not need a perfect route. The itinerary deliberately mixes booked highlights with space to respond to weather, mood and what you discover after arrival.
