Muri Night Market: what to know before you go

A simple first-timer guide to Muri Night Market — when to arrive, what to expect and why a little cash helps.

26 August 2026

Go hungry — and go early

The official Cook Islands Tourism market guide currently lists the Muri Night Market for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday evenings from 5pm until sold out. The phrase “until sold out” matters: popular stalls can finish early, so this is not the night to arrive at 8pm expecting every option to still be running.

What to expect

It is a casual collection of food trucks and stalls rather than a formal sit-down restaurant. Current official examples include barbecue, seafood, curries, noodles, pizza, coconuts and desserts. The mix can change, which is part of the appeal.

Cash is still useful

Cook Islands Tourism currently recommends bringing smaller New Zealand dollar notes or Cook Islands coins because many stalls are cash-based and change can be limited. That is one reason our Money & ATMs guide recommends never relying entirely on cards.

Make a Muri evening of it

If you are staying elsewhere, combine the market with a lagoon walk, sunset drink or an earlier Muri activity. If you are staying in Muri, this is exactly the kind of evening where you can leave the hire car parked and keep things simple.

Travel details change. Current operating days, weather, offers and transport information should always be rechecked before relying on them.
